Dr. Smucker Barnwell, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides evidence based psychotherapy and consultation in the greater Seattle area. Her research and publication interests focus on the ethical intersection of technology and evidence-based therapies.
Dr. Smucker Barnwell provides workshops and trainings on a diversity of topics, including telehealth, virtual reality therapies, technology and ethics, and other topics. Dr. Smucker Barnwell also delivers telehealth consultation to large-scale providers (e.g., hospital systems, corporations), universities, and individual practitioners.
Dr. Smucker Barnwell is a partner of Seattle Psychology, PLLC. She is also the Clinical Director of Behavioral Health at 98point6, a Seattle-based start-up offering virtual primary care services. She is the former Chair of the Washington State Psychological Foundation, and consultant to the Washington State Psychological Association Telehealth Committee. Dr. Smucker Barnwell served on the Joint APA/ASPPB/APAIT Telepsychology Taskforce, writing the APA Guidelines to Telepsychology. She has consulted on the American Telemedicine Association guidelines for adolescent telehealth, and has contributed to various other national committees regarding telehealth and technology in health care. She works as a consultant to a diversity of behavioral health technology companies, universities, and private practitioners.
Dr. Smucker Barnwell received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Southern California. She also holds degrees from Harvard University and Wellesley College. She completed her internship at the West Los Angeles VA Healthcare System, and later completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Excellence in Substance Abuse Treatment and Education at Seattle VA. Dr. Smucker Barnwell was a founder of the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System Telemental Health program. She has worked in the field of telemedicine as Associate Director of Evaluation at Free & Clear, Inc. and other companies.
