Patrick Miles, Ph.D.

Patrick Miles

Dr. Patrick Miles is a clinical psychologist in the San Francisco Bay Area. He worked for more than twenty years in community mental health for San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services. Like most county mental health systems, he worked with publicly insured and indigent youth, and adults suffering from serious mental illness. After providing clinical and supervisory services, Dr. Miles assumed management positions in the program and served as the Assistant Director from 2008 until his retirement in 2015. The measurement of outcomes and quality improvement were the primary responsibilities in his management assignments. During his tenure, he had the opportunity to learn about contemporary quality improvement strategies such as the use of Plan, Do, Study, Act; learning collaboratives; and the Lean Model of Quality Management. He helped to implement Lean Quality Management techniques to mental health services in San Mateo County. In addition, he participated in state and local initiatives to develop outcome and process measures appropriate to clients seen by county mental health programs in California.

Dr. Miles pursued his interest in teaching by serving as adjunct faculty for the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) beginning in the mid-1990’s and continuing today. He taught a variety of courses but primarily focused on statistics and research design in the Psy.D. and Ph.D. programs. He also participates in the online extended education program through CSPP where he teaches statistics, tests, and measurement. He is interested in finding new ways to use online resources to provide education to students who are not able to attend courses physically.

Dr. Miles earned a B.A. from the University of Colorado in 1984 and received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology in 1991.
