G. Andrew H. Benjamin, J.D., Ph.D., Jeffrey Younggren, Ph.D. of Division 31 and Division 42 and Christina Luini, J.D., put together state law specific EHR templates for each jurisdiction and have made them available for FREE to psychologists. This project was funded by a CODAPAR grant and was completed due to the funding and hundreds of volunteer hours.
The EHR templates meet the letter of the law and ethical standards but also the templates have “drop down menus” that are designed to be elegant. Our EHR Task Force identified the key aspects of good psychological EHRs that MDs and other health care professionals would expect for integrated health care records from their psychology partners. Also, the EHR templates focus psychologists on meeting the legal requirements of each State's law-- and limit the unnecessary detail, that psychologists often include in their records.
The task force supported moving to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICD) diagnostic codes. And, our FREE Electronic Health Record templates permit drop down diagnoses using the ICD-10CM functional diagnoses.
Please find your jurisdiction’s templates, but, please, read first the record-keeping file that digests your State’s record-keeping laws.
These EHR templates should be used as a starting point. As laws do change, please contact your State Psychological Association to verify whether there have been changes in your jurisdiction’s record-keeping duties.
